We’ve adventured through present-moment awareness, through non-judgement to purposeful attention.  Now, we’re homeward bound—we’ll look at why all this is important and how we can bring it together in our lives.

A conscious connection

Mindfulness is conscious connection.  Purposely paying attention, in the present moment, without judgement.

This may not happen in every moment (it’s a practice!), but it’s the goal for every moment.  It’s life as we’d like to experience it more often, right?

Well, you know what?  We’re closer than we’ve ever been.

Awareness is the greatest agent for change.

We’re aware—we know how we want to live.

And, it starts simply with taking notice.

Taking notice as we eat our breakfast.  Taking notice as we walk to work.  Taking notice as we chat and shop and read and play and rest.

Always remind yourself to consciously connect with the world around you—and live with all your senses open.

I don’t think it’s ever about getting to a point where it’s natural and we don’t have to think about it anymore—that makes it feel like an impossible goal and the opposite of what we’re trying to achieve!  Natural is effortless and unconscious—we want to make conscious effort here.

We want to live fully, mindfully—instead of letting our minds fool us.

As Deepak Chopra says, our senses create our reality—the whole universe exists through our perception of it.

Power of community

When we start to deepen the experience of our reality, we start to deepen our connection to our environment, our humanity, our fellow humans.

And, holy smokes, is there power in numbers.

I came across this quote the other day and it was an aha! moment—

When ‘I’ is replaced with ‘we’, even illness becomes wellness.

Obviously, we can’t take it too literally—illness is a serious matter, but the heart of the idea is there.

When we connect with our people, no matter how many people, we enhance our wellbeing.

Is it especially true in the case of some mental illness?  It can grow in isolation and feelings of aloneness, but can become mental wellness when we realise that we’re never alone, right?  We can never feel anything that hasn’t been felt before and we’re just never alone.

Seven and a half billion people on Earth—that’s one helluva community!

Now, through the power of the internet, we have access to so much more of our community.  At the moment, social media is a bit of a smoke screen—only showing off the best of people’s lives or allowing people to make nasty comments under the veil of anonymity.

And our digital neighbours tend to be overtaking knowing our actual neighbours, but we’ll get there!

We’re aware and that’s the first step.

Share the journey

Who among us is an expert on the human experience?  We have only the gift of sharing perceptions that hopefully can help those on their journey.

Reaching out.  Sharing the journey.  This is the reason we’re here—if we’re ever struggling for motivation, this is a pretty good purpose for living.  And it’s the reason for this site.

I’ll never be an expert on anything—golly, I’m a mindful mess, but I’ve been lucky enough to read and learn some wondrous things on my journey so far and I’m really hoping that by sharing them, I can help other people see the value and beauty in their lives.

It’s all about perspective.  Perhaps, it’s one of the reasons why we’re born with different body parts and different skin colours and different beliefs, ideals, and dreams?  So that, when we share the journey, we get to experience it from every angle.


Sure, we may not agree with every perspective, but that’s all part of the learning process—we’re shaped just as much by the things we don’t agree with, as the things we do!

In every community, there is work to be done.  In every nation, there are wounds to heal.  In every heart, there is the power to do it.
