the right intention

There’s a Living Brave chat between Brené Brown and Oprah where Oprah talks about intention creating the consequences—not your actions.

It really got me thinking.

The example she used from her life was that she was always giving, giving, giving, and wondering why people kept demanding from her.

The intention of her giving was so that people thought she was nice.

And they did.  They thought she was very nice and that’s why they kept taking advantage.

So, the intention was causing the consequence.

I tried to relate that to my own life.

I asked—

Is it my intentions (to cultivate community mindfulness, to eliminate bullying, to promote mental well-being, to encourage conscious digital use and media engagement, to be a good human) creating the rut I’m in?

I wasn’t convinced because I thought I had the greatest intentions in the world, but that I just wasn’t taking action—so, isn’t lack of action the culprit here?

I realised three things—

  1. If your intentions are strong enough, action (and consequences) will naturally occur, so intentions are key.
  2. Duh, of course they are, why are you questioning Oprah?!
  3. If intentions are key, why aren’t mine strong enough to create action?

I think it comes down to a couple of things—firstly, my life is quite comfortable and not scary.  So, why have life-changing intentions that might rock the boat?

Why?  Because it’s time to rock the boat before there ain’t no boat to rock!

The other thing is that I haven’t been able to focus my intentions.  There are a million and one things I want to do (see above!), and I can’t choose what to focus on because—

What if I choose wrong?

I know that time is precious, but I don’t do anything about it.  Likewise, I know that, no matter what happens, life will steer me in the right direction.

No matter what decisions I make, things will work out the way they’re meant to.

Through wrong turns and failures and missteps and false starts—there is only one direction for me and I’ll get there.

If I focus and trust.

And there have been so many seemingly coincidental happenings in my life lately that I do trust in the journey—it’s a bit crazy and unexpected, but also comforting!

We’ll talk more about that later.

So, how can I make my intentions strong enough for where life is leading me?

That’s the next step.

I came across this 48-hour manifestation plan a while ago and it’s just been sitting in my drawer—festering.

Or, maybe, it’s manifestering?!

It’s not something I’ve ever done before, but I think I’m ready to give it a crack and see what happens.

Have you had any experience of manifesting your intentions?

If so, what happened for you?

If not, want to do some manifesting with me?!
